MINNEOLAS

This cross between a tangerine and a grapefruit has a unique, delicious and distinctive flavour, with an appealing not-too-sweet tart taste.

  • Known by its knob-like formation at the stem end
  • Delicious sweet tart flavour
  • Smooth to slightly pebbled texture
  • Peels and segments easily
  • Few if any seeds
  • Harvested June to July
  • The Minneola originated in 1931 from a cross of a Duncan grapefruit and a Dancy tangerine, in Florida.
  • Minneolas are sometimes called the ‘honeybell’ because of its bell shape.
  • Has a short season of maturity (depending on the region).

LATE MANDARINS

Mandarins are delicious medium-sized citrus fruits packed with juicy flavour. Mandarins are often called ‘zipper oranges’ – because of its easy-peeling skin – or ‘kid-glove oranges’ – because of their tender interior.

  • Mandarins have been cultivated in China for several thousands of years and in Japan as far back as the 10th century.
  • Two small mandarins will supply 35% of the daily recommended allowance of Vitamin C
  • All three these varieties are patented and limited hectares are cultivated.
  • Nadorcott mandarin was selected from a population of Murcott seedlings planted in 1964 at INRA experimental station near the village of Afourer, Morocco.
  • Wonderfully sweet and aromatic soft citrus fruit.
  • A rind colour of deep red-orange with a bright-orange interior.
  • Very easy to peel with a low seed content.
  • ClemenGold™ is the registered brand name for superior quality Nadorcott citrus.
  • Harvested July-August
  • An Israeli hybrid of Temple and Dancy bred at the Volcanic Research Centre
  • Rind texture is firm, of medium thickness and fairly easily removed
  • Segments are tender, juicy and virtually seedless
  • Flavour is very sweet with just a bite of acidity
  • Harvested June to July
  • Developed in Italy to replace the more seedy Murcott variety.
  • Easy to peel with an extremely thin rind
  • Segments are tender and have high juice content
  • Exceptionally sweet flavour with sufficient acidity
  • Virtually seedless but may have up to five seeds per fruit
  • Harvested in August-September

MID-SEASON MANDARINS

Mandarins are delicious medium-sized citrus fruits packed with juicy flavour. Our mid-season varieties include the Nova and the Fairchild. Mandarins are often called ‘zipper oranges’ – because of its easy-peeling skin – or ‘kid-glove oranges’ – because of their tender interior.

  • Mandarins have been cultivated in China for several thousands of years and in Japan as far back as the 10th century.
  • Two small mandarins will supply 35% of the daily recommended allowance of Vitamin C
  • A hybrid of Clementine mandarin and Orlando tangelo
  • Medium to large mandarin
  • Rind is an attractive reddish-orange
  • Moderately seedy or seedless
  • Easy to peel and peels very ‘clean’
  • Harvested May to June
  • Texture is smooth to pebbly with seeds
  • Bright orange colour
  • Known for its ‘zipper skin’
  • Harvested June

CLEMENTINES

Perfect for the lunchbox or as an on-the-go snack, these convenient and delicious fruits are ever-popular around the world.

  • Sweet nectar taste
  • Peels and segments easily
  • Conveniently seedless
  • Harvested April to June
  • The Nule variety of Clementine was discovered near the town of Nules in Spain in 1953.
  • Clementines are popular for use in salads and sauces.

SATSUMAS

These cute, palm-sized mandarins make a great snack and are a joy to peel and enjoy.

  • Deliciously sweet and usually seedless
  • Peels and segments easily
  • Light orange skin, bright orange inside
  • Pebbly texture
  • Harvested March to April
  • Originated in Japan in the early 1400s
  • Given name in 1878 by the wife of a US Minister to Japan – Satsuma being the former name of the territory now known as Kagoshima
  • The nickname of ‘Christmas orange’ comes from its history as a Christmas treat in Britain
  • In South Africa, they are called naartjies, from the Tamil word nartei meaning citrus.
